The temple of the tooth relic

Sri Dalada Maligawa or The temple of the sacred tooth relic is a Buddhist temple in the city of Kandy ,Sri Lanka. It’s located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, which houses the relic of the tooth of the Buddha. Since ancient times, the relic has played an important role in local politics because it is believed that whoever holds the relic holds the governance of the country. Kandy was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings and is a World Heritage Site mainly due to the temple.

Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage

This one’s considered amongst the best places to visit in Kandy for those who are fascinated by the wildlife! Plan a day out with wild Asian elephants at Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. This is a -popular breeding ground of 90 plus elephants who stay in their natural habitat. Watch these adorable elephants bathe, play around, and feed them fruits. Kandy Lake
Adjoining most of the popular tourist places in Kandy and eateries with lake view, the Kandy Lake is certainly among the best places to visit in Kandy, Sri Lanka. This is one of the top places to visit in Kandy Resembling the shape of a knuckle of a clenched fist from the top, the Knuckles Mountain Range is probably one of the most scenic visiting places in Kandy. The mountain Range in the region towards the northern end of Sri Lankan highlands (39 km from Kandy) is the place to be. Royal Botanical Garden
This place is counted as one of the best Kandy attractions. Spanning over 60 hectares, the Royal Botanical Garden is the largest and one of the best places to visit in Kandy with a- hidden charm to explore. Situated in Peradeniya, the place is quite close to the Mahaweli River. Along with the most striking orchids, you can find more than 4000 species of plants in this Botanical Garden. You should definitely visit the National Herbarium of Sri Lanka which is attached to this Royal Botanical Garden. Tourists may tour the whole 147 acres of the garden to spend their day. The garden isn’t something new as it was created in 1821 when it contained mostly coffee and cinnamon plants. Do check out the Cannonball Tree present in this garden which King George V of the United Kingdom and Queen Mary planted in 1901. The garden is also an ideal place to plan a picnic with family and friends.

Later, converted into a sanctuary, it is an important bio reserve of Kandy. The sanctuary is spread over 104 hectares and is primarily known for the different species of birds residing in it. Offering as many as 80 species of birds and animals like mammals and insects, it is one of the visiting places in Kandy. Along with the wildlife, you can also visit the three Buddhist forest monasteries present at this place. Another attraction is the three Buddhist cave dwellings. Tourists will love the thick forest cover of the area which looks beautiful in the monsoon months. If you are an animal lover and visiting Kandy, you must go here!

Hanthana Mountain
Hanthana Mountain Range is located south-west of the Kandy city, adjacent to the University of Peradeniya. It consists of seven peaks out of which the highest is “Ura Kanda”. It is a popular location for bird watching, hiking and camping. The mountains have served as the location for movies and music videos. The peaks of the mountain offer amazing views of Kandy City.

Embekka Devalaya
The devalaya is dedicated to God Katharagama (Katharagama deviyo). A local deity called Devatha Bandara is also worshipped at this site. The shrine consists of three sections, the “Sanctum of Garagha”, the “ Digge” or “Dancing Hall” and the “Hevisi Mandapaya” or the “ drummers’ Hall”. The Drummers’ Hall has drawn the attention of visitors to the site, due to the splendid Wood carvings of its ornate pillars and its high pitched roof.
Sigiriya

Sigiriya is one of the famous and most attractive places in Sri Lanka. Sigiriya means lion’s rock. Hight of the rock is around 200 meters. According to the history of Sri Lanka, this rock used as a Kingdom in Sri Lanka by King Kashyapa in 5th century.
